The battery life of the headphones is as follows
Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is a new set of real wireless headphones with active noise cancellation from the South Korean company, released together with the new Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra.
As the name "Pro" suggests, the Galaxy Buds Pro is at the top of its true range of wireless headphones, as it seems to compete with the Apple AirPods Pro.
Samsung overdid it with the Galaxy Buds Pro, or is there a new winner in the field of high-quality wireless headphones? We've already spent a few days with the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, so read our first impressions - our full review will be out soon.
Price and release date of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro will launch alongside the Galaxy S21 smartphone on January 14, 2021 (this is today) on Samsung's website. With that said, you'll see them in all stores starting January 15.
You will be refunded $ 199 / £ 219 / AU AU 349. It's expensive, but it makes sense that they cost a little more than their predecessors, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, which cost $ 169.99 / £ 179 / AU.319 at launch.
It also makes sense for Samsung to try to undercut the Apple AirPods Pro ($249 / £ 249 / AU AU 399), as its buds are usually a bit cheaper than its biggest competitor.
The Samsung Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro will be launched only five months after the South Korean company launched the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, and less than a year after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.
Design
The Samsung Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is available in three colors: Phantom Black, Phantom Silver and Phantom Violet to match the new Samsung Galaxy S21.
The color of the buttons matches the charging case you receive. The supplied cabinet is similar to the Galaxy Buds Live: smaller than the Buds Plus, but a little thicker.
This means that you can see the case in the pocket of the skinny jeans, for example, but the compact shape makes it perfect for carrying it with you easily.
The case itself feels solid and, unlike the Buds Plus case, there is no reaction at the flip end. The LED indicator on the front of the charging case shows in colors (green, yellow, red) how much battery is left in the case.
There is a USB-C port on the back that can be used to charge the box, although this can also be done wirelessly, if you have a wireless charging platform at hand.
When you open the box, you will see an additional LED indicator.
The same colors are also used here, but they indicate how charged the headphones are.
Samsung is launching headsets at breakneck speed and the Galaxy Buds Pro are just the last stop on this journey.
Call Quality
Good news for everyone who likes to make and receive calls through wireless headphones. The Galaxy Buds Pro includes three microphones and an accelerometer in each earpiece, which is responsible for filtering out unwanted sounds during conversations.
One of the microphones outside has a high signal-to-noise ratio, which should further improve the sound clarity.
Special technology has also been implemented to ensure that weather conditions have minimal negative effects on the sound quality of your phone conversation, including a tighter fit, mesh and camera that should help reduce wind noise during the call. telephone. We'll check out these claims in our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.
Noise suppression
Another useful addition on the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is active noise cancellation (ANC). This is the second set of headphones from Samsung that is equipped with ANC and improves the offer found in Bud Live.
In addition to advanced Active
Noise Cancellation, you can also adjust the noise cancellation level using the smartphone companion app, which allows you to increase the noise cancellation level when you are in a busy environment.
Ambient Mode, where headphones allow external sounds to enter, such as when someone talks to you, also benefits from this fine-tuning feature. Again, from the app, you can choose from four different strengths, depending on how much ambient sound you want to filter through the Galaxy Buds Pro.
However, you may not want to keep diving into the app to change the ANC and environmental levels, and with Galaxy Buds Pro you won't need to. They can, if you choose to enable this feature, automatically adjust these parameters based on their actions and the environment.
If the headphones detect that you are talking or a car is driving while exercising, they can switch to ambient mode, and when you move from a quiet area to a noisy area, you can see that the kidneys automatically dial noise cancellation.
There's even a smart Active Noise control feature that recognizes your voice and vibration to confirm you're on a call and let outside sound through.
As soon as you start talking, Buds Pro will automatically turn off your music and return it to maximum volume as soon as it detects that you have finished talking. There is even a rewind function in case you miss the favorite part of a song.
We haven't spent enough time with the new Galaxy Buds Pro yet to determine how well these additional features work, but we'll make sure to thoroughly test them in time for our full review.
Battery life and connectivity
Advertising
Samsung promises five hours of hearing pleasure in a single cycle, after which the charging case can provide an additional 13 hours before you need to find an outlet, although that number increases to 20 hours if you are not using ANC. It sounds reasonable on paper, but it's not as good as the Plus Buds, which manage to reach 11 hours on a single charge.
We love that Samsung headphones support fast charging.
In five minutes, there should be enough battery for an hour of playback. Fast charging is done through the USB-C port, but wireless charging is also possible, although it will be a little slower.
Connectivity is done via Bluetooth 5 and, unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Buds Pro are optimized for use with Samsung products.
If you have multiple Galaxy products, you can easily switch devices with Buds Pro thanks to its auto-switch function. Let's say, for example, that you are listening to music through your Galaxy Tab S7 Plus and receiving calls through your Samsung Galaxy S20 - Auto Switch, which means that the headphones can be used automatically for a phone call and reconnect to the tablet after the call.
Audio performance
Inside the Galaxy Buds Pro is an 11mm woofer responsible for low frequencies and a 6.5 mm treble speaker for high frequencies, with Samsung taking inspiration from Hi-Fi speakers in its design.
At our first listening session, we were particularly pleased with the clarity of the sounds. We have a feeling that we can clearly distinguish between different instruments in bombastic music, and that neither high nor low frequencies will prevail at any given time.
With the song Gimme! Give it to me! Give it to me! (Man after midnight) everything sounded well balanced, and you could clearly hear, for example, the drums beating in the right earpiece, which turns into muffled sounds in many other headphones.
In the Galaxy Wear app, you can customize the sound to your liking. There is an option, for example, to add an extra bass, but fans of raw bass may not be completely satisfied.
There's also an AirPods Pro feature competing with 360 Audio, which comes with Dolby Head Tracking technology.
According to Samsung, this will provide a more complete immersion in the listening process, allowing you to " stay in the center of the stage." However, this feature will only work with Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
For gamers, there is a game mode that should reduce the audio delay when playing with the Galaxy S21. To reach a verdict on these features, we'll have to spend more time on the Galaxy Buds Pro, but we'll be able to provide more details in our full review.
Early verdict
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro are more expensive than the previous Buds headphones, but you get a lot in return. The design has been redesigned with a more comfortable and compact finish.
The biggest improvements, however, are under the hood. Enhanced Active Noise Cancellation and smart mode that analyzes whether you need noise cancellation or environmental mode could be an extremely useful suggestion.
Our first experience with the sound is satisfactory so far; the sound is well balanced and the inclusion of 360 Audio is certainly promising, although we will have to devote more time to them to make a real assessment.
